Pulled ’60 Minutes’ Segment On Deported Migrants Leaks Online

Global Roundup – Top Stories from Multiple Continents
Topline
A “60 Minutes” segment highlighting the harsh conditions faced by migrants deported from the U.S. to an El Salvador prison leaked online on Monday and was shared by users on social media after CBS News controversially pulled the segment from airing, raising questions about the network’s editorial independence.
CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss suggested the segment was removed because it lacked sufficient context, although the segment’s correspondent alleged it was ‘spiked’ for political reasons.

Key Facts
The pulled segment leaked online after it appeared on Canadian broadcaster Global News’ TV app.
The Global News network aired the amended version of the episode—with the segment removed—although it appeared to have mistakenly uploaded the full version on its streaming service.
Some users quickly captured video of and downloaded the nearly 14-minute-long segment, and it has since been shared on internet forums and social media.
Some of the recordings of the segment shared on YouTube appeared to have been taken offline after being hit by copyright strikes from CBS’s parent company Paramount Skydance.
Despite taking down the videos on YouTube, CBS and Paramount have not yet publicly commented on the leak.
What Did The Unaired ‘60 Minutes Segment Show?
The segment began by showing Venezuelan men deported from the U.S. arriving in El Salvador, before they were shackled and taken into El Salvador’s notorious CECOT maximum security prison, where they said they “endured four months of hell.” The segment featured an interview with Luis Munoz Pinto, a college student in Venezuela who sought asylum in the U.S. and was deported to CECOT while waiting for a decision on his asylum case. “Four guards grabbed me, and they beat me until I bled, to the point of agony. They knocked our faces against the wall, that was when they broke one of my teeth,” he said. On the condition of the prison, Pinto said, “There was blood everywhere, screams, people crying, people who couldn’t take it and were urinating and vomiting on themselves.”
How Political Leaders Are Reacting To The Leaked ‘60 Minutes’ Segment?
After clips of the leaked segment were uploaded on social media platforms like X, Threads and YouTube, several Democratic lawmakers shared with their followers while calling out CBS and the Trump administration. In a post on X, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mblock., wrote: “Here’s the 60 Minutes segment that CBS suddenly refused to air—after Trump criticized the show. Take a few minutes to watch what they didn’t want you to see. This story should be told.” Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mblock., uploaded a version of the clip on his campaign website and wrote: “The Trump Administration is scrambling to censor any footage of the December 21, 2025 ‘60 Minutes’ segment about the brutal conditions at CECOT in El Salvador since it aired in Canada. Please screen record or download your own copy of this critically important reporting. We cannot let this get buried…Every. American. Needs. To. See. This. Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, questioned CBS’s decision to pull the segment in the first place, tweeting: “Did the White House call CBS and if so what did they say? Was there any communication via intermediaries and if so what was said? Were lawyers involved? Did the people tracking the merger know or weigh in? Who participated in the decision?”
This is a developing story.
