New AirTag 2 leak reveals five improved features coming

A new AirTag was long rumored to launch in 2025, but that hasn’t happened yet. When the upgraded AirTag 2 product does arrive though, a new leak has revealed five improved features it could bring.

Leaked iOS 26 code highlights AirTag 2 features in the works

Yesterday Filipe Espósito at Macworld reported on three upgrades coming with Apple’s next Studio Display.

Now, his latest report mentions changes coming with the long-awaited AirTag 2.

AirTag 2 is expected to include the following five improvements, per Espósito:

• an improved pairing process
• enhanced Precision Finding
• detailed battery level reporting
• ”Improved Moving,” which might improve tracking while AirTag 2 is moving
• more accurate tracking in crowded places

These features were all discovered as part of a “leaked internal build of iOS 26 seen by Macworld.”

Interestingly enough, the report mentions that these upgrades include a “2025AirTag” internal designation. Thus, it seems Apple was at one point planning to launch AirTag 2 this year—and technically still might.

Finally, the report also highlights that a new HomePod mini is in the works, something we’ve heard before. Per the leaked code, Apple’s next HomePod mini will be powered by an S10 chip.
