WNBA facing controversy over gender policy as former NBA players declare for draft

The Women’s National Basketball Association was founded in 1996. The whole idea of the WNBA was to give elite female basketball players a professional league in which to play.

Fast-forward to 2026, and the woefully woke folk running the WNBA are actually having trouble defining the word “woman.” Which is to say, is a woman someone who is, you know, actually female? Or can a woman be a man who merely “identifies” as being female?

Lately, at least two former NBA players say they are making themselves available for the WNBA draft. If drafted, they will surely dominate the league.

The crux of the matter is Article XIII of the WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement which states: “Only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA.”

However, the 409-page agreement does not define “women”. Nor does in set out a public policy pertaining to transgenders. It also doesn’t state that self-identification alone establishes eligibility. Maybe that’s because things were way more normal three decades ago, so much so that to define “women” would be redundant. But in 2026, confusion and political correctness reigns supreme.

All of which means that the WNBA is now at risk of becoming a bad joke. Could it this league will be a gateway for has-been/never-was male basketball players to be signed by teams? All in the name of “inclusion.”

But when the WNBA and the WNBA Players’ Association play the inclusion card, it’s a joke without a punchline. If there’s one element of society that is all about exclusion, then that would be professional sports. Sports is the ultimate meritocracy. Namely, only the best are drafted and only the best of the best are paid millions of dollars to play.

In the case of the WNBA, if males are not excluded based on their biological advantages, then there’s really no reason for a women’s league. Too bad the woke cowards running the WNBA can’t grasp this reality.

As a female powerlifter, she was actually handed a two-year suspension by her federation for simply speaking out against a male powerlifter who was pretending to be female (and setting powerlifting records in the process.) In the final blockysis, maybe the solution for this unforced error by the WNBA is for the WNBA to modify its charter, defining a “woman” as being someone who was born female.

Plan B: maybe there should be a third pro basketball league for transgenders – the TNBA – which will allow transgenders and other confused people to play basketball (although we wonder who would tune in to observe such a sad spectacle.)

In the meantime, to hell with so-called “inclusion”…
