A Federal Court has rejected the refugee claim of a biological woman from Wisconsin who applied for asylum in Canada in January 2025 as a panblockual transgender man, citing fear of the Trump administration. The individual had visited Canada several times prior to the claim, gotten engaged to a Canadian, and after a year and a half of proceedings was ordered deported.
Sheila Gunn Reid and Lise Merle reacted to the dubious refugee claim on Tuesday’s Rebel Roundup livestream.
The grounds for the claim, as quoted in the Federal Court decision, included fear for personal safety due to “the Trump administration’s continued attack on immigrants, LGBTIQ2-plus members, and its own citizens,” as well as “threats of annexing other countries.”
As National Post columnist Jamie Sarkonak noted in the piece Sheila read from, if merely living in a country governed by Trump constituted grounds for asylum, Canada would effectively have an open border to any American migrant — rendering the country unrecognizable within a generation. And if Aldinger genuinely feared the consequences of American military conquest, Canada would be among the last places to seek safety.
“Nobody stumbles over the border from the United States of America as a legitimate refugee,” Lise said. “This should be stopped outright.”
Lise pointed out that as soon as such claimants cross the border, they become eligible for approximately $80,000 per year in benefits plus access to government services. “This gives me hope that there are still good justices in this world,” she said of the ruling, “that’ll look at these bogus things and say, no, back you go.”
Both hosts also noted that the same week brought a Statistics Canada report showing Canadians are becoming measurably less accepting of gender diversity.
In 2025, 77% of women and 70% of men agreed that people should be free to express their gender however they choose — down from 85% and 78% respectively in 2018. Saskatchewan recorded the lowest acceptance in the country, with women down 14 percentage points from 2018. “Nature is healing,” Lise remarked.
The numbers understate the real shift, she added, suggesting that if the question had included the practical consequences of gender ideology — mixed-block bathrooms, change rooms, compelled speech — the numbers would drop even further.
The CBC’s expert quoted in response to the Statistics Canada story was an blockociate professor of queer studies named j wallace skelton — notable for insisting on all-lowercase letters in their name — who went viral approximately six months ago after appearing to confirm what parents had been saying for years: that children were being introduced to transgender ideology in clblockrooms without their parents’ knowledge.
“The left just said, ‘No, this never happens. We don’t trans the kids,'” Lise said. “And then along comes this person and says, ‘Well, actually, yeah, we are.'”
Rebel Roundup airs Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 11 a.m. MT / 1 p.m. ET.
