Taylor Farms Voluntarily Recalls Fresh Jalapeños Over Salmonella Concerns

Taylor Farms, which has been linked to a large outbreak of cyclosporiasis ***ociated with iceberg lettuce in the United States, said on Sunday that it was voluntarily recalling several of its products made with fresh jalapeños that have been tied to a multistate salmonella outbreak.

The recalled products include spicy guacamole, mango pico de gallo, taco dip and more than a dozen other Taylor Farms branded and unbranded products, the company said in a statement on its website. They were distributed across 26 states to major retailers — including Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Hannaford and Kroger’s — and have a “Best If Used By” date up to and including Aug. 16, 2026.

Taylor Farms said it was recalling finished products containing jalapeños that were voluntarily recalled by Coast Citrus Distributors earlier this month.

Taylor Farms said it is “no longer sourcing products from this farmer,” and that the company “is not aware of any reported illnesses linked to its products containing jalapeños.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said imported recalled fresh jalapeños traced back to a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, appear to be the source of the salmonella outbreak in the United States.

At least 345 people across more than two dozen states have gotten sick with the same strain of salmonella that has now been linked to jalapeños, the C.D.C. said in a statement. It said no deaths have been reported in connection to the outbreak.

According to the C.D.C., most people infected with salmonella develop diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps six hours to six days after being exposed to the bacteria.

The voluntary recall for Taylor Farms, one of the nation’s largest producers of leafy greens and fresh vegetables, comes as the company has been linked to a large outbreak of cyclosporiasis ***ociated with iceberg lettuce in the United States, which causes severe diarrhea.

Infants, older adults and those who are pregnant or immunocompromised are the most vulnerable.

On Monday, health officials in Michigan reported the first two deaths ***ociated with the outbreak. The two people who died had significant underlying health issues, according to the Michigan Health Department.

In July, the C.D.C. linked cases in Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and West Virginia to the outbreak.

The iceberg lettuce was sourced from central Mexico and distributed by Taylor Farms, which has issued a recall of bagged iceberg lettuce in 27 states.
