New UK PM Andy Burnham keeps Britain’s migrant policy in place

Britain’s new Labour government is continuing asylum accommodation across the country under Prime Minister Andy Burnham, with communities being asked to do their share in accommodating migrants.

Independent journalist Jack Hadfield joined Ezra Levant to discuss the latest protests over asylum accommodation and Burnham’s approach to migration.

Jack and Ezra discussed the growing presence of asylum seekers in communities across Britain and the protests that have followed.

This also includes the impact of the immigration policies on free speech and policing. Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull was contacted by police and asked to attend a voluntary interview in connection with two investigations, one involving a speech at the Unite the Kingdom rally and another involving social media posts about Islam.

The discussion also touched on non-crime hate incidents and concerns about police scrutiny of online speech. Jack said it is too early to know whether Burnham’s government will take a different approach from Keir Starmer’s government, but he expects free speech to remain an issue.

Despite those concerns, Jack pointed to the growth of independent and citizen journalism in Britain. He described journalists covering protests and political events directly, often using little more than a smartphone.

Ezra also contrasted Britain’s media environment with Canada’s, arguing that government financial support for news organizations can affect media independence.
