Doug Ford melts down, flips out on Trump

Doug Ford had a very long day on Tuesday.

It started with him telling Donald Trump to “kiss my block” on morning radio interview and ended with the U.S. president calling him “the less charismatic, intelligent, and overall unimpressive brother of the late great Rob Ford” on Truth Social — and musing about renaming Lake Ontario “Lake America.”

Sheila Gunn Reid and Tamara Ugolini reacted to the Ontario premier’s day in the spotlight on Tuesday’s Rebel Roundup.

“I’ve never in all my live long days seen someone have a real-life workplace meltdown over the course of 12 hours the way he did yesterday,” Sheila said. “That was a Michael Scott style meltdown.”

Ford spent the day threatening to cut off electricity to the U.S., then oil and gas, then potash, then uranium, threatening to re-air his ads featuring Ronald Reagan, and at one point suggesting Trump “might as well call up the Energizer Bunny.”

When asked by reporters if the prime minister had asked him to tone it down, Ford said Carney “wasn’t against” his comments — then confirmed he has “a lot of real estate” on his rear end and Trump has “a lot of room.”

Amid all of this, Ford publicly suggested Alberta Premier Danielle Smith get “on board” and cut Alberta’s oil exports to the U.S. as a retaliatory measure. He then reportedly called her to actually ask her to do it. She said no — and posted it publicly.

“As I’ve said in the past,” Smith wrote, “cutting off Alberta energy exports to the US would be extremely harmful to Canadians and is not a viable option.” 

She also announced she was accelerating construction of the Northern Shield pipeline from Alberta to Ontario and other critical export infrastructure. “She told Doug Ford to kiss her behind,” Sheila said, “in the nicest way possible.”

Tamara noted that Ford doesn’t appear to understand the pipeline infrastructure he was threatening to weaponize.

Line 9, the pipeline that carries Alberta oil east, runs through Michigan — meaning cutting off Alberta oil exports to the U.S. would also cut off oil flowing to Ontario.

“He’s stupid and no one’s ever shown him a Natural Resources Canada map of pipeline infrastructure,” Sheila said. “You would think the premier of the province would know where all the oil and gas to his province from the West comes from.”

The hosts also pointed out that Ford has no official role in trade negotiations, no standing to speak on foreign affairs, and is presiding over roughly $162 billion in Ontario net debt.

“Why is anyone giving any credit to Doug Ford that he has any idea about any of this stuff?” asked Tamara. Line 9 is currently the subject of a legal dispute in which the U.S. federal government has taken the side of the energy operator — a position the Trump administration could reverse quickly if provoked.

“If I were Doug Ford,” Sheila said, “I would zip my big fat mouth for a minute.”
