Coolie, the highly anticipated film starring Rajinikanth and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is being touted as Tamil cinema’s strongest contender to enter the 1000 crore club.
The excitement around the film is sky-high, and industry insiders believe that if any Tamil film can reach this milestone, it’s Coolie. However, to achieve this, the film must outperform every previous Tamil blockbuster in all major markets.

In Tamil Nadu, Coolie needs to gross between 230 to 250 crores, which means it must surpblock the benchmark set by Jailer (200 crores). This is the strongest area for Coolie to score so it should maximize as much as possible.
In the Telugu states, the film will need to earn around 150 crores gross. This is a big number, but if the film delivers on content and gains strong word of mouth, it’s within reach.

The Hindi market is expected to be the toughest. For Coolie to collect 200 crores in the Hindi belts, it would need to replicate the success of Rajinikanth and Shankar’s 2.0 from 2018.
That film managed a solid run in the North due to its scale and visual effects. Coolie will need a similar response, along with strong promotional efforts, to attract Hindi-speaking audiences. The Aamir Khan factor will play a big role in achieving these numbers.

In Kerala, the film must gross around 70 crores, while in Karnataka, it should aim for 75 crores. Both regions have historically supported Rajinikanth’s films well, but these targets still demand blockbuster-level performance.
Overseas, Coolie will need to gross at least 25 to 30 million dollars, which translates to approximately 250 to 255 crores. For that, the film must perform strongly in markets like the US, UK, UAE, Australia, and Canada.
If all these circuits perform at peak levels, Coolie could become the first Tamil film to reach the 1000 crore milestone.
With Rajinikanth’s mblock appeal, Lokesh’s directorial strength, and high production values, the film certainly has the ingredients.
But promotions, execution, reception, timing, and most importantly the clash with WAR 2 will decide whether this ambition turns into a reality.
