Rep. Al Green files articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump

Aug. 24 (UPI) — Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, filed new articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump on Monday, citing “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

The resolution says that Trump has failed to “uphold his constitutionally mandated solemn presidential oath of office to ‘preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,’ thereby demonstrating that he is a great threat to democracy.”

It further says that Trump is “abusing the powers of the presidency by operating United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection as his vicious, quota-driven, unaccountable paramilitary police forces, transgressing with anonymity and secrecy, blockaulting people, committing and covering up unjustified killings of civilians … with impunity … terrorizing communities and brazenly wantonly devolving the United States democratic republic into an authoritative regime.”

The articles name four people killed by the agencies in 2026: Renee Good and Alex Pretti in January, and Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastian Duran Guerrero in July.

Green has introduced articles of impeachment against Trump before. He was the first to do so during Trump’s first term as president, and he also filed an article of impeachment in June 2025, saying the president failed to notify or seek approval from Congress before launching strikes against three alleged Iranian nuclear sites. That attempt failed by a 344-79 vote.

Trump has been impeached twice by the House of Representatives, once in December 2019 and once in January 2021. Both times,the U.S. Senate later acquitted him of the charges.

Green was removed from the House chamber in February for holding up a sign saying “Black People Aren’t Apes!” as Trump arrived to deliver his State of the Union address. The sign was in response to a since-deleted Trump social media post showing former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama as apes.
