WAR 2 BO Trends Coming: Biggest Litmus Test?

War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr., hits theatres on August 14, 2025. As the next installment in YRF’s ambitious Spy Universe, expectations are mblockive — but the ground reality seems far more complicated.

While the film is still projected to open decently with a net collection of Rs. 50–55 crore in India, that’s a far cry from the initial Rs. 75 crore+ expectations. The poor response to the teaser has dented excitement.

The film’s worldwide gross on Day 1 is still expected to cross Rs. 125 crores, riding on the star power of Hrithik and NTR. The second day should touch 70 crores with positive word of mouth as it’s a national holiday.

But there’s one big obstacle — the Coolie clash. Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s mblock entertainer is dominating buzz in the South, and despite NTR’s presence in War 2, the hype clearly favors Coolie in the Tamil and Telugu belts. In Hindi belts, also Coolie might dent WAR 2 if it has great word of mouth.

War 2 might sail through the first extended weekend and rake in around Rs. 300 crores worldwide, even with average word of mouth.

But unless it delivers strongly, the collections could drop badly from Monday, and it could wrap its lifetime gross under Rs. 500 crores which would be seen as a serious underperformance for SPY Universe — especially when compared to Pathaan’s Rs. 1050 crore haul in 2023.

However, if the content is engaging and receives positive audience response, War 2 could push towards the Rs. 700–800 crore mark worldwide, making it a good success and a significant revival moment for Bollywood and also pan-India films made under Bollywood banners.

The film’s reception will also have wider implications. If NTR’s role isn’t handled well, it could damage Bollywood’s credibility with South stars looking to explore pan-India projects.

War 2 isn’t just a movie — it’s a litmus test for the future of cross-industry collaborations.
