Generally, South Indian cinema and particularly Tamil cinema is known for making quality films on a low budget. On such film that released recently is Tourist Family.
The film was a blockbuster at the box office, and it is continuing the dream run on OTT as it is gaining good views on JioHotstar.

While we set aside the public reception for this film, there has been unreal negativity and hate towards this film on social media.
Right at the fundamental level, many people are saying it glorifies illegal immigration, spreads religious hate and has problematic take on beef consumption.

There are several such comments on the core nature of this film.
But the interesting topic is that there were none of these comments when the film had a long run in theatres. There were no targeted hate or communal attacks on the film while it was being watched by the Tamil cinema folk.

At the heart of it, there is always the argument that “ A film must be watched like a film” and there must be no social deductions from the same. But that is not even remotely close to how Indian cinema operates and the makers of Tourist Family are learning it first hand.
But at the end of it, it needs to be said that Hotstar would be the happy party here as all this negativity and controversy is only going to help with their viewership.
