A Conservative MP has been charged with two counts of sexual assault following alleged incidents at the Groucho Club in London’s West End.
Patrick Spencer, who was first elected to parliament at the general election last year, was charged on Tuesday in relation to alleged assaults against two women at the private members’ club in August 2023.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement that it had been authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service to charge Spencer “following an investigation by detectives . . . in connection with an investigation into two sexual assaults, which reportedly occurred at Groucho Club in August 2023. The charges relate to two separate women.”
Spencer, 37, will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 16. The MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich is the son of Lord Michael Spencer, the billionaire British businessman and former Tory party treasurer.
