Tollywood BO Report First Half 2025: More Shocks Than Hits

As the first half of 2025 wraps up, it’s a good time to reflect on how Telugu cinema performed over the past six months. The industry saw a blend of a few hits, surprising flops, and a few unexpected successes that kept the box office buzzing.

January started off strong with Venkatesh and Anil Ravipudi’s Sankranthiki Vastunnam which emerged a m***ive hit, grossing around Rs. 300 crores and becoming one of the year’s biggest blockbusters.

Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaaj also impressed, touching the Rs. 100 crore mark, according to producers.

However, Game Changer, despite all the pre-release hype, turned out to be an epic disaster, resulting in losses of hundreds of crores. Most other January releases failed to leave a mark.

In February, Thandel stole the show with its Rs. 100-crore run, proving to be a hit. Films like Laila and Majaka, however, struggled to create buzz and sank without a trace.

March saw a flood of releases, but only a few managed to stand out. Court, a small-budget film, won appreciation for its storytelling. The sequel MAD Square did well commercially, while Robinhood and Dil Ruba failed to click with audiences.

April was a quiet month. Odela 2 and Arjun: Son of Vyjayanthi didn’t perform well at the box office. Jack was a total washout, and though Sarangapani Jathakam had average content, it couldn’t sustain its run.

May brought a much-needed boost with HIT 3: The Third Case doing strong business during its first weekend but later fizzled out.

Sree Vishnu’s Single was decent at the box office, and Samantha’s Subham had a mixed response, while Bhairavam and Shashtipoorthi turned out to be big flops.

June started slow but gained momentum in its third week. Kuberaa made a good impact, grossing over Rs. 100 crores. Kannappa is doing average business.

Overall, the first half of 2025 was a rollercoaster for Tollywood. While a few films struck box office gold, many flopped badly. There were even weeks with no releases at all, even during the peak summer season — an unfortunate sign of the industry’s current struggles.

With several major releases lined up, all eyes are now on the second half — will it bring more hits or more heartbreaks? Only time will tell.
