In case you missed Wednesday’s NYT Mini Crossword puzzle, you can find the answers here:
It’s June 19th which is also known as “Juneteenth” or Emancipation Day, a celebration of the end of the horrific institution of slavery in America. On June 19th, 1865 Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas, just months after the 13th Amendment was proposed in Congress. The amendment was ratified in December of that year.
A good day, in other words. It’s also the day before my birthday, and the last full day of spring, as the 20th is also the summer solstice. Now let’s solve this Mini!
The NYT Mini is a smaller, quicker, more digestible, bite-sized version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword, and unlike its larger sibling, it’s free-to-play without a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it on the web or the app, though you’ll need the app to tackle the archive.

A few of these were tricky. It didn’t occur to me, as it so often doesn’t, that the electronics upgrade in 1-Across would be two words. I’m still not sure what journalism has to do with the word HORSE. Others helped this all come together, however. VOTES and LOS and ACHOO and so forth. Today’s Mini took me 1:22.
