Pack your bags and get ready to head to Cousins Beach one last time. The Summer I Turned Pretty returns for its third and final season this July. The official Season 3 trailer just dropped on June 11, so read on to check it out and learn everything we know about the bittersweet ending of the fan-favorite series.
Based on the best-selling book trilogy from Jenny Han, Prime Video’s coming-of-age drama follows the complicated love triangle between teenager Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung) and the Fisher brothers, Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).
Han, who also serves as the series’ showrunner, teased to Entertainment Weekly that each of the characters will be put through the wringer at some point in Season 3. “They all had very emotional scenes. And [the actors]
all brought it. I was really bowled over by their level of intensity and preparation,” she said.
In Season 2, viewers saw flashbacks about what had happened in the past year, including that Susannah had lost her battle with cancer and Conrad and Belly had broken up. Belly and Jeremiah, who weren’t necessarily on good terms, reconnected after they learned that Conrad had gone missing from college. They tracked him down at Cousins Beach, where he was trying to save the beach house from being sold. Conrad and Jeremiah eventually find a way to keep the house in the family and preserve the home and their memories of their mom.
As for Belly, her relationship rekindles with Jeremiah, but things become more complicated after Conrad admits he still has feelings for her. Belly ultimately chooses to be with Jeremiah, and she begins to heal from a depression that has lingered for months following Susannah’s death.
However, in Season 3, Jeremiah and Belly’s romance isn’t as perfect as it may appear from the outside, Han teased to EW. “A successful love triangle is one where, no matter what happens, people are going to be devastated and heartbroken,” she said. “Because if the answer feels really clear and easy, then there’s no real conflict. No matter what you do, someone’s going to be hurt by it.”

Prime Video dropped the official trailer for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 on Wednesday, June 11. Set to multiple Taylor Swift songs, we see Belly and Jeremiah very much in love, and her relationship with Conrad is in the rearview mirror (for now). “First loves are important, but they’re not as important as lasts,” Belly says.
However, at a family dinner, Belly reveals the news that she and Conrad are getting married. This not only blindsides her mother and brother, but also Conrad, who was unaware of their wedding plans. Without the support of both of their moms, Belly is hesitant, but Jeremiah promises her that they’ll figure it out.
But Belly is slowly starting to realize that everywhere she goes, there’s a memory with Conrad there. He currently has everything figured out; he’s living in California and pursuing his career as a doctor. While on a drive, Conrad tells Belly that she’s changed a lot. But Belly’s BFF Taylor is not having Conrad’s change of heart.
“You’re just gonna drive off into the sunset with her? She’s gonna blow up her whole life just because you suddenly remember she exists?” Taylor tells Belly’s ex.
It appears as though Jeremiah is catching on to Belly and Conrad’s unresolved romantic feelings. In one clip, things get really heated between the Fisher brothers and punches are thrown. “I see the way he looks at you,” Jeremiah tells Belly in another scene, but she assures him that Conrad doesn’t matter. “This is you and me.”
Do we really believe her? Or is she meant to be with Conrad forever?

Without revealing spoilers, The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 is based on the third and final book in the trilogy, We’ll Always Have Summer, which was released in 2011.
The third season will be the series’ longest yet, with 11 episodes. There’s also a two-year time jump, as Belly is now at the end of her junior year of college. She’s still going strong with Jeremiah, whom she chose to be with over Conrad at the end of Season 2. Meanwhile, Conrad is off at Stanford studying to become a doctor.
“It’s the end of her junior year of college, and Belly’s looking forward to another summer in Cousins with her soulmate, Jeremiah. Her future seems set, until some core-shaking events bring her first love Conrad back into her life,” Prime Video’s synopsis reads. “Now on the brink of adulthood, Belly finds herself at a crossroads and must decide which brother has her heart. Summer will never be the same.”
So, how closely will the series follow Han’s book? In a 2024 interview with People, the cast said Season 3 will stick to the novel as much as possible.
“I know Jenny is really just strong on staying as true to the books as possible and hitting the main points,” Casalegno told the magazine. Tung added, “There’s so many different ways you could go about it. There’s a blueprint of a book, which we’ve been lucky to have for two seasons now, just such a solid blueprint for us, and to have Jenny on set with us has been incredible.”
Meanwhile, Han told People she originally “went into the show with an open mind” about how she could “explore new stories” while still honoring the books’ fans.
“To me, the fun of the show is to watch it and be able to experience it as the story is meant to be told, which is where you’re not sure of the ending,” she explained. “It’s kind of the pain and the pleasure of storytelling is when I go to the movies, I don’t want to know the ending. I really want to be surprised and I want to be on that journey, even though it does cause me anxiety as I’m watching.”
