Rogers State University holds Technology Day on the Hill |
CLAREMORE, Okla. — On Friday, Rogers State University held its Technology Day on the Hill to display all that their technology and justice programs have to offer students.
“What we’re doing is Technology and Justice Studies on the Hill,” said Dr. Curt Sparling, the department head of technology studies and justice studies at RSU. “It’s an opportunity for individuals in northeast Oklahoma to come to Rogers State University and see what is going on within my specific department.”
Dr. Sparling shared some of the activities and programs prospective students were able to participate in.
“Today we’re going through UAS—unmanned aerial systems—drones. Individuals are earning their FAA trust certificate and as you can see behind me, the opportunity to learn how to fly some drones. In addition to that, we’re going through cybersecurity, which is one of the degree programs that we have at at Rogers State and then this afternoon we’re going into forensics investigations as well as artificial intelligence and game design. It’s going to be a fun afternoon of coding and finger printing.”
According to Dr. Sparling, getting to interact with students currently studying in these fields allows prospective students to see what they can one day achieve.
“It’s important because so many individuals think STEM, computer science, technology, it’s one of those difficult fields, difficult degree programs to get through. If you notice behind me, the auditorium is filled with my students and prospective university students and getting those two groups of individuals together so that they can have that conversation of ‘you too can do a STEM degree. You too can be successful and have these professions.'”
