Rep. Suozzi: It's time to solve America's immigration issues

(NewsNation) — Democratic New York Rep. Tom Suozzi said when it comes to immigration policy in America, politicians in both political parties need to listen to what the people want.

“People need to be willing to stand up to their own base; we’re never going to move forward if we keep pandering to the extremes of the Democratic Party or Republican Party,” Suozzi said Thursday on NewsNation’s “CUOMO.” “We need reasonable people to come together and try and find a way forward and make a deal that will move the country forward.”

Suozzi added that immigration has been a fight for more than 30 years and that it’s time to solve the problem now.

“The people are hungering for politicians to stop the BS and actually do the work necessary to make people’s lives better,” Suozzi said.

Suozzi recently wrote a letter to President Donald Trump detailing a plan on immigration he believes both parties can get behind. The three-step plan, which he described on social platform X, includes a way to secure the border, fixing the asylum system and a process to protect DACA and temporary protected status recipients and make sure they have a better pathway to citizenship.

As the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown continues, ICE agents were denied entry to Dodger Stadium on Thursday. The LA Dodgers said agents were requesting access to the stadium’s parking lot. Recent ICE raids have also caused a work shortage across farms and hotels in the U.S.
