It wasn’t just Kamal Haasan or Mani Ratnam fans who were excited about Thug Life. Even Ram Charan’s fans had their eyes on the film—because A.R. Rahman was behind the music.
Rahman is also composing for Charan’s upcoming film Peddi, directed by Uppena fame Buchi Babu Sana.

After the Game Changer disaster, Ram Charan fans want Peddi to shine in every department—especially music. So naturally, Thug Life became a test for Rahman’s current form.
Expectations were sky-high. Rahman has delivered classics for Mani Ratnam in the past—Roja, Dil Se, Sakhi, and more. Fans believed the legendary combo would strike again.

But after the release, reviews clearly state that the music and background score of Thug Life are below par.
Apart from the song “Achcha Vanne Poovvaa”, which makes a decent impact during key moments, the rest of the album failed to connect. The songs didn’t lift the visuals or add any emotional depth.

The background score was a bigger letdown. In a gritty gangster film like Thug Life, BGM is everything. But Rahman’s score felt too soft, even missing in important scenes. Some say he went for a global sound—but it simply didn’t suit the film.
This has worried many Ram Charan fans. If Rahman couldn’t bring his best for a Mani Ratnam film, what can be expected for Peddi, which is just Bucchi Babu’s second project?
Thankfully, Peddi’s teaser gave fans a bit of hope. The short glimpse had music that matched the rustic village backdrop and felt fresh.
Some believe that Bucchi Babu might push Rahman better, just like he did with Devi Sri Prasad for Uppena.
Three songs for Peddi were already recorded last year. All eyes are now on the March 27, 2026, release date.
If Rahman can tap into his vintage energy, Peddi could be the musical comeback Ram Charan and Telugu cinema fans have been waiting for.
