Maruthi’s Hype on The Raja Saab: Fans Slightly Worried

Prabhas, despite having the power to headline global-scale projects, made an unconventional choice with The Raja Saab — a horror-comedy directed by Maruthi.

The film is being produced on a lavish scale by T.G. Vishwa Prasad under the People Media Factory banner.

At the teaser launch event, director Maruthi revealed that the idea to do a horror-comedy actually came from Prabhas himself. Initially, Maruthi was hesitant.

He feared the genre had become oversaturated and stale, and he didn’t want to deliver something routine — especially with a star of Prabhas’ stature.

To address this, Maruthi took extra time refining the script. His goal was to create something fresh and different from the usual formula.

According to him, The Raja Saab will have the visual scale and cinematic style of a Disney film, while staying grounded in Indian culture.

Over the years, several of Prabhas’ films have drawn comparisons to Hollywood blockbusters. However, these lofty claims have often backfired.

Radhe Shyam was labeled the “Titanic of India” but became one of the biggest box office disasters. Adipurush was hyped as “India’s Avengers” but ended up being one of the most trolled films in recent memory.

Now, The Raja Saab is being positioned as a “Disney-style Indian film,” which has naturally made fans slightly worried.

After being let down by directors like Radha Krishna Kumar (Radhe Shyam) and Om Raut (Adipurush), fans are understandably cautious about what Maruthi might deliver next.

That said, the teaser for The Raja Saab has somewhat eased concerns. While it isn’t groundbreaking or earth-shattering, it’s a solid first impression.

There’s no radically new world or revolutionary writing on display, yet Maruthi has struck the right emotional and commercial chord with the teaser.

Most Telugu viewers now seem ready for a FDFS experience. Based on current reactions, the teaser has done its job — it has built curiosity and momentum.

What happens next depends entirely on how Maruthi sustains this momentum with songs, trailer, and promotions

The Raja Saab is scheduled for a m***ive worldwide release on December 5, in five languages.
