María Corina Machado’s Call for Stronger U.S. Action Against

María Corina Machado, Venezuela’s most popular opposition leader, wants the United States to take tougher measures against President Nicolás Maduro. She believes stronger action is needed because she says Maduro’s government acts like a criminal organization and blocks fair elections.

Machado cannot run for president because Venezuelan authorities banned her from elections until 2036. Despite this, she remains the leading opposition figure and has widespread support.
