Marco, released on December 20, 2024, emerged as a sensational blockbuster, grossing over 100 crores worldwide.
It made history as the first Malayalam film to cross double-digit figures in the Hindi belt, gaining pan-India traction.

With its stylized action and gritty storytelling, the film earned an A certificate in India and an R21 rating in Singapore for its intense violence.
Naturally, buzz around a sequel was strong. Plans for a Marco 2 and a full-fledged franchise were reportedly underway. However, in a surprising turn of events, those plans have now been officially shelved.

The confirmation came directly from lead actor Unni Mukundan, who responded to a fan on social media saying:
“Bro, apologies but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I’ll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity. Cheers.”

This response, posted just hours before the screenshot went viral, confirms Mukundan’s decision to move on from the Marco franchise.
Sources in the industry suggest that behind-the-scenes issues — possibly creative differences or production hurdles — may have played a role.
But it appears that the final push came from the “negativity” surrounding the sequel plans, as hinted by the actor himself.
Unni Mukundan, now turning his attention to larger and more uplifting ventures, seems determined to channel his energy into more impactful cinema.
While Marco 2 may not materialize, fans can expect the actor to return soon with something even more ambitious.
