Breightmet fire: police confirm rescued man died from injury

Greater Manchester Police has confirmed that the 78-year-old, who had been rescued from a fire on Lorton Grove in Breightmet, has died from his injuries.

Emergency services responded to reports of the fire at around 3.10pm yesterday afternoon, with the fire service remaining at the scene after having rescued the pensioner.

However, he had been in critical condition in the hospital last night.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “At around 3.10pm yesterday (5 December), officers were called to reports of a house fire on Lorton Grove, Bolton.

“Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished, while the man, aged 78, was taken to hospital.

“Sadly, he later died from his injuries.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious cir***stances and enquiries are ongoing.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Recue Service (GMFRS) said: “At shortly before 3pm on Friday (December 5) three fire engines from Bolton and Farnworth fire stations were called to a fire at a terraced bungalow on Lorton Grove.”

“Firefighters rescued one man from the property before handing them to the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.

“The fire was extinguished using hose reels with the area made safe by crews.

“GMFRS were in attendance for just over two hours.”

It is understood an air ambulance landed in Dome Park.
