Kuberaa 75/- Ticket Price Hike in AP Triggers Backlash

Just a day before its release, Kuberaa has landed in controversy — not because of its content, but due to a steep ticket price hike.

The Andhra Pradesh government approved a special G.O., allowing a Rs.75 increase in ticket prices for the film. While this might help the makers recover costs, the move has frustrated audiences and industry watchers alike.

Viewers are growing tired of the Telugu film industry’s trend of charging premium prices for every new release.

Films like Thandel, MAD 2, HIT 3, and now Kuberaa are being priced like big-budget pan-India blockbusters. However, most are either mid-range or genre-specific. Many feel these hikes are unjustified and are actively discouraging people from visiting theatres.

Directed by Sekhar Kammula, Kuberaa is an emotional action drama starring Dhanush and Nagarjuna.

It took nearly three years to make and carries strong expectations. But hiking prices at a time when audience turnout in Andhra Pradesh is already low could backfire.

Advance bookings are doing well in Telangana and overseas markets. However, bookings in AP started late due to the delayed G.O., and Tamil Nadu has shown only lukewarm interest so far.

Sekhar Kammula is known for making clblock-oriented, content-driven films—not high-budget visual spectacles. Charging premium rates for such mid-budget films risks alienating his core audience.

Today’s moviegoers want value for money. Unless a film truly delivers, they’re increasingly unwilling to pay inflated ticket prices.

Kuberaa might still succeed if it generates strong word-of-mouth. But this pricing controversy raises a larger question — is Tollywood slowly pricing itself out of reach from its own audience?
