Huge Backlash on Social Media

Superstar Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is set for a grand release on August 14, 2025. The movie will hit theatres in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. But what’s making headlines is not just the star-studded lineup — it’s the controversial decision to rename the Hindi version Majadoor.

The title change was revealed in a recent promo for the song “Chikithu,” which drops on June 25. While Coolie is retained in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, the Hindi promo ends with the surprising new title Majadoor.

Social media reacted instantly — and brutally. Fans called the new title “poor,” “bland,” and “outdated,” arguing that Coolie had stronger m*** appeal, instant connect, and nostalgic value.

Many believe the change could hurt the film’s buzz in the Hindi market. Critics say Majadoor title is terrible, lacks punch and sounds B-grade and kills all the hype in Hindi.

There’s also strong speculation that the name change was forced due to copyright issues — the original Coolie (1983), starring Amitabh Bachchan, may still have its title registered.

The film is also set to clash with War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, making the Independence Day weekend one of the most competitive in recent box office history.

With so much riding on its pan-India appeal, fans hope the makers reconsider the Hindi title and are urging them to do whatever it takes to retain the title Coolie. After all, in a market where first impressions matter, a title can make all the difference.
