At least four people, including an off-duty New York police officer, were killed after a gunman opened fire at a midtown Manhattan office building on Monday.
The suspect was identified as Shane Tamura, of Nevada, two people briefed on the investigation told the AP. Sources said he fatally shot himself.
Tamura, who resided in Las Vegas and drove cross-country to New York, is believed to have acted alone, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said. She added that an investigation into a possible motive is underway.
Multiple people were also injured, Mayor of New York City Eric Adams, said. He posted a clip on social media urging people still inside the building to stay put as police officers were conducting a floor-by-floor search.
The skyscraper is located in a busy area of midtown, a few blocks away from Central Park. It houses some of the country’s top financial firms, including offices of Blackstone and KPMG, the consulate of Ireland, and the National Football League headquarters.
