As we cross the halfway mark of 2025, Tollywood finds itself at a crucial juncture. The first half of the year offered a few scattered hits, but the real action seems to be loading in the second half — packed with big-ticket releases, pan-India spectacles, and long-delayed star vehicles.

The standout success of early 2025 was Venkatesh’s Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, a Sankranti blockbuster that raked in around 300 crores worldwide, according to the producer.
Other notable successes included Daaku Maharaaj, Hit 3, Thandel, and Kuberaa. Mid-range performers like Mad Square, Court, and Single also found some audience, proving that strong content still resonates.

However, Sankranthiki Vasthunnam remained the only big blockbuster of the first half.
All eyes are now on Kannappa, the mythological fantasy headlined by Vishnu Manchu, which could potentially close out the first half on a high note.

The upcoming months are stacked with high-stakes releases:
July opens with Nithiin’s Thammudu slated for a July 4 release followed by Ghaati, an intense crime drama starring Anushka Shetty and directed by Krish, releasing on July 11.
Then comes Hari Hara Veera Mallu (July 24), Pawan Kalyan’s long-awaited historical actioner, followed closely by Kingdom featuring Vijay Deverakonda — though its release date remains uncertain.
August could be Tollywood’s biggest month of the year, with War 2 (Hrithik Roshan & Jr. NTR) clashing with Coolie, a pan-India juggernaut starring Rajinikanth, Upendra, Aamir Khan, and Nagarjuna. This Independence Day face-off promises nationwide buzz and record-breaking openings.
September is set to be m***-heavy, with Pawan Kalyan’s OG and Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2: Thaandavam expected to dominate. Teja Sajja and Manchu Manoj’s Mirai, and Sai Dharam Tej’s quirky Sambarala Yetigattu will aim for breakout success.
October may serve as a spillover month, with Rishab Shetty’s Kantara 2 on the cards. Also expected are Telusu Kada (Sidhu Jonnalagadda) and Dude (Pradeep Ranganathan), both promising fresh, youthful content.
December will close the year on a high. Prabhas’ The Raja Saab is confirmed for a December 5 release, while Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur’s Dacoit adds genre variety.
Meanwhile, fans are still awaiting a final release date for Chiranjeevi’s ambitious fantasy drama Vishwambhara.
The second half of 2025 is shaping up to be a theatre-first, festival-like affair — if all films stick to schedule. While the box office may witness overcrowding and fierce clashes, it also means audiences will be spoilt for choice.
With a blend of mythological, m***y, and pan-India offerings, Tollywood is poised for a potential comeback on both commercial and critical fronts.
After a mediocre and largely uneventful first half, the next six months could very well turn 2025 into a milestone year for Telugu cinema.
