Coolie, Jana Nayagan, Kanchana 4

Pooja Hegde has been going through one of her worst phases. Despite all the beauty, glamour, and fan following, she has not been able to deliver a big hit. Her last two films, Retro and Deva, turned out to be miserable disasters.

But thankfully, she still has some films lined up — although none of them can be called sure shot blockbusters. All have their own strengths and weaknesses.

First up is a cameo in the highly anticipated Coolie starring Superstar Rajinikanth. She is doing a special song in the film. If the song clicks, she might gain some advantage from it.

Then there’s Jana Nayagan — Thalapathy Vijay’s final film before he leaves cinema and enters politics full time.

The film will mostly focus on Vijay and his political ambitions, leaving little to no scope for Pooja Hegde.

She is also a part of the horror-comedy Kanchana 4, which has been a successful franchise.

But over time, it has become outdated, so there is no guarantee it will receive the same love and appreciation from the audience.

Unless the horror elements are genuinely strong and the story is powerful, not routine like the previous parts, it’s a risky film. Also, Pooja is not a performer like, say, Sai Pallavi, who can carry a film based purely on her acting.

Then there’s the romantic comedy Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, starring Varun Dhawan and Mrunal Thakur, directed by David Dhawan — who has now aged, and it’s unclear if he can still make cinema that connects with Gen Z audiences.

His last film, Coolie No. 1 (on OTT), was a disaster. Mrunal is also in the film, so Pooja might have to share the limelight with her.

So, it can be said that Pooja Hegde’s lineup is shaky at best.
