On 16 June, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences in Vatican City, of which I am president, issued a statement raising concerns about threats to scientific freedom. Science is being jeopardized through censorship, politicization and misinformation, undermining its crucial role in addressing pandemics, malnutrition, poverty, climate change and artificial-intelligence ethics.
