Embattled Rep. Max Miller stays in campaign for re-election in Ohio

Aug. 10 (UPI) — Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, who has been accused by his ex-wife of domestic abuse, is continuing his campaign for re-election despite calls for his resignation.

The deadline to suspend his campaign is Monday at 4 p.m. EDT, but a representative for Max Miller’s campaign said he will remain on the ballot to represent District 7. Lawmakers from both parties have publicly urged him to step down from his post.

Max Miller is the son-in-law of Rep. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, whose daughter, Emily Miller, is Max Miller’s accuser. Moreno received criticism for not condemning Max Miller for weeks before releasing a statement last week, calling him a “danger” and telling him to resign.

“If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them,” Moreno posted on social media. “He should not serve in the House of Representatives. I believe Max Miller needs to seek professional help to end the clear pattern of abuse he has left in his wake.”

Emily Miller accused the Republican of abuse and blockault that occurred during their marriage. Among the accusations, she said he threw hot water at her, held a gun to her head and broke their daughter’s collarbone.

Democrat Brian Poindexter is running against Max Miller in November’s midterm election.
