You’ll be buying one thing but getting something different which could be a health risk.

A well-known snack bar has been withdrawn from sale and removed from shop shelves following the discovery of a health hazard. The treats have been incorrectly packaged, prompting an allergy warning.

Skinny Crunch Light Peanut Butter Bars have been placed in Skinny Whip Toffee bar packaging by mistake, which fails to list peanuts as an ingredient.

This means the product poses a potential health risk to anyone suffering from a peanut allergy. Consequently, the affected bars have been recalled from Asda and Sainsbury’s shoppers across England and Scotland.

  • Best before: August 2027

The Food Standards Agency has issued a notice stating: “Halo Foods Ltd is recalling the above product and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

“Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product and on their website. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”

It continued: “If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to where you bought it from for a full refund.”

Asda informed its shoppers: “The product is being recalled because it may contain undeclared peanut allergen. Although the outer packaging and bars are correct, the individual bar wrapper inside states toffee whip bars with incorrect allergens.

“This means the product may present a risk to consumers, particularly those who are allergic to peanuts.”

Asda shoppers should take the item back to their local branch, where a complete refund will be provided, even without proof of purchase.

For additional details, shoppers can get in touch with Halo Foods at Enquiries@skinnybars.co.uk or 0800 298 3969 or Asda Customer Relations on 0330 053 0111.

Should anyone have worries regarding their wellbeing after eating the product, they ought to get suitable medical guidance.

Halo Foods stated: “Halo Foods apologises for any inconvenience caused and is taking this matter seriously, please note that no other Skinny products are affected by this action.”

What’s the reason behind allergy alerts?

The Food Standards Agency releases food recall or allergy warnings concerning items across the UK. It explained: “Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold.

“Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).

“Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect, or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”
