CBC goes car shopping again with new national fleet vehicle tender

CBC/Radio-Canada is going car shopping again, issuing another procurement notice for “National Fleet Vehicle Purchases.”

The public broadcaster has posted the procurement on MERX as it looks to acquire vehicles for its operations across the country.

It isn’t CBC’s first recent trip to the dealership.

A previous CBC procurement carrying the same “National Fleet Vehicle Purchases” title was published in December 2025. According to the MERX notice, its objective was to facilitate the purchase of specific vehicles in estimated quantities across predetermined categories to meet CBC/Radio-Canada’s “current and anticipated fleet vehicle requirements across Canada.” That procurement ran for a one-year term.

CBC also issued a separate procurement in November 2025 for “Commercial Upfit and Customization for National Fleet,” suggesting the broadcaster was not only purchasing vehicles but contracting for modifications to its fleet.

The latest procurement again carries the title “National Fleet Vehicle Purchases / Achat National de Véhicules de Flotte.”

The posting comes as CBC continues to receive substantial taxpayer funding while maintaining vehicle operations across its national network.

The publicly accessible MERX listing does not provide a total anticipated purchase price, meaning it is not yet clear how many vehicles CBC intends to acquire through the latest procurement or how much the shopping trip could ultimately cost taxpayers.

CBC describes itself as taking seriously its responsibility to be transparent about how it manages public resources. 

For beleagured taxpayers wondering what the public broadcaster needs next, apparently the answer includes another round of vehicles.
