San Francisco Bay Area rattled by magnitude 3.8 earthquake

Aug. 13 (UPI) — The San Francisco Bay area was rattled by a magnitude 3.8 earthquake Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Two aftershocks measuring 3 and 2.8, respectively, immediately followed, the USGS added. The initial temblor, which was centered in Oakland, struck at 8:30 a.m. local time, with aftershocks hitting at 9:07 a.m.

There were no reports of major damage or injuries.

The epicenter was near the Oakland Zoo, KGO-TV reported.

Zoo staff conducted safety inspections following the quake, including checks on the gondola system, KGO-TV said.

Bay Area Rapid Transit reported rail service delays immediately after the quake but later said normal service had resumed.

Residents close to the epicenter described feeling the quake.

“I was at my home just in Sheffield village over here. and we felt like a pretty significant rattling. My dog was asleep on the couch, and she actually, like, jumped across the room onto my lap and climbed onto my lap and the easy chair,” Ania McMahon told KGO-TV.
